STUDENTS FROM WARSAW GAIN DRESSMAKING AND HAIRDRESSING IN SEVILLE

In January 2022, a group of 16 students from Warsaw arrived in Seville to carry out a 4-weeks long internship as dressmakers and hairdressing assistants. Students get an opportunity to practice with professional tutors and learn new information about their jobs, also they were lucky to live in other culture and discover other cities in Andalucia.

9 students were working as dressmakers. Their main tasks included: fitting, altering, repairing, and making tailor-made clothing and home accessories, according to customer’s and manufacturer’s specifications and fit. Applying principles of garment design and stylization. Repairing or replacing defective garment parts such as pockets, zippers, snaps, buttons, and linings. Repairing or replacing defective parts of home accessories. Making various types of garments, such as dresses, suits, and flamenco dresses, according to customer specifications and measurements.

Other 7 students were working as hairdresser assistants. Their main tasks included: organizing the workplace and selecting appropriate tools and supplies for hairdressers. Get acquainted with work organization and equipment used by Spanish hairdressers. Getting acquainted with the cosmetics and hair care technologies used by Spanish hairdressers. Using sterilization procedures of hairdressing utensils. Washing customer’s heads and getting them ready for cutting or other treatments required

During their stay in Malaga, the trainees not only developed their work skills but also took part in different cultural activities such as a tour around Seville and Tapas Night. Also, students traveled to other Andalusian cities Cadiz and Malaga.

The trainees were taken on a journey through some of Seville´s most important historical moments such as the discovery of America, and the subsequent first boat trip around the world, and the trainees saw some gorgeous views of Triana, La Isla de La Cartuja, La Maestranza, El Barrio del Arenal and the 1992 Expo.

4 weeks in Seville were surely an unforgettable experience, we hope students gained a lot of practical knowledge and skills and that some of them might have enjoyed Spain that much they would like to come back there in the future!
